There’s no such thing as luck

In life, as in billiards, success depends on how we handle missed shots. Let your agenda be to make impact, to lift others and share happiness.

This week we did it by learning to play billiard with AFTER WORK CLUB members.

When it means everything, play as if it means nothing. But its good to remember; when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

Not a bad place to stand in between two legends of their own; Robert Lappalainen and Aki Kauppinen.

Robert is known of his car racing career,  Helsinki Thunder -street car racing event and amazing art. Aki Kauppinen is snooker commentator at Eurosport and a respected snooker coach .

According to numerology, the number five symbolizes freedom, curiosity, and change – a desire to have adventures and explore new possibilities. But it signifies more than just high energy and excitement. I used to play basketball having number 5 on my shirt. There has not been a time in my life that I have valued more freedom and change in my life.

Stand tall and be proud of what you are. Never back down from what you believe in. Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.

Mental benefits of billiard: developes your patience, strategic thinking and creative problem solving skills and boosts your presicion. Your next move should set up your next move.

We were lucky to be coached by pro Aki Kauppinen.

There’s no such thing as luck, only skill. Billiards is an intellectual exercise disguised as a sport.

One of our members said he learnt more than in 50 years. Beside learning, I think in our events the best part is the people attending. Its not the place, its the feeling in it. And if you can be anything, be kind.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

While potting balls in a pool game is the goal, potting the white ball is, in fact, a foul and gives the upper hand to your opponent.

Your opponent never knows what you have in mind, until you make the first move. The ball is round so that the game can change direction.

AFTER WORK members got to taste Mad- Croc energy drinks – energy with a wild bite. The Drinks range consists of Energy Drink, Sugarfree, Energy Coffee, Energy Croc Choc, Energy Cola and our brand new Juiced Energy Range with our tastes Peach Tea, Orange, Red Berry, Orange Cola and Green Apple.

AFTER WORK CLUB  started from BRETELLE Man Fair event 5 years ago. When its fair, your business can be hit by bad weather, ours got hit by ”me too”. . Never realized it was not allowed that time to do events for men. Nina was my partner in crime those days. Great person to work with and what a blessing to have as a friend.  We used to play basketball against each other as teenagers; I’m lucky to have her on my side as an adult. <3

I changed the name to AFTER WORK MAN FAIR, but got so many women attending, so just drop the word man. Now in our events its great to mingle; men and women.

This was the first event that I did together with Noriko Salo. Sky is the limit, but its good to remember that nothing will work unless you do.

One is lucky to be able to love ones work and work together with ones you love.

“When you help others, your own troubles aren’t as heavy. In fact, you can fold them like a handkerchief and place them in your pocket. They’re still there, but they’re not the only thing you carry.” – Alice Hoffman

When attending AFTER WORK events you get an hand made accessory, often pocket square. Bretelle has a boutique in Helsinki and online since 1998. 1000 different ties, 800 pocket squares, 400 bow ties; designed in Finland, hand made in Italy -also private label for companies also in small quantities.

Being well dress is talking without a word.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
